In Alabama in the 1880s, an illness renders infant Helen Keller blind,
deaf and mute. Pitied and badly spoiled by her parents, by the age of
six she has become a wild, raging creature. In desperation the Kellers
hire governess Anne Sullivan to teach their uncontrollable daughter.
After fierce battles with Helen, Anne convinces her parents she needs
two weeks alone with her if she is to make any progress. She then
works an apparent miracle: teaching Helen discipline and language
through the use of her fingers – a breakthrough that has a
profound effect on Helen’s and everyone’s lives.
