The play is a touching but very funny comedy about three sisters and
their reaction to their mother’s death. Meeting up for the
funeral, they struggle over who remembers which events more clearly,
only to find that their individual memories become fuzzy.
Bereavement is a tricky subject, inspiring a range of emotions which
can veer from misery to amusement very quickly. Stephenson grapples
with this kind of rollercoaster ride, veering from the darkly dramatic
to the wryly humorous, with great skill. Winner of a 2000 Laurence
Olivier Award, this is a bittersweet comedy from one of
Britain’s hottest playwrights.
NB The play contains some strong language.
