Never mind the Leveson inquiry... Pravda is a
provocative, exuberant and sharp satirical comedy about newspapers.
Here we see politicians cosying up to the press. We witness the
corruption of journalists. We watch as truth is twisted to grab
attention to sell papers. We watch the ruthless dealings of a tough,
reptilian press tycoon, fresh from the colonies (a thinly disguised
Murdoch/Maxwell hybrid), whose motivation is acquiring power to make
money. Newspapers are seen as bare commodities feeding greedy
obsessions even as they exploit the privileges of press freedom. This
is the world of modern newspapers exposed with zest and compelling
comic energy.
