The setting is Victorian London. Bella Manningham is being slowly but relentlessly driven mad by her husband. Why does she keep losing things? What is the dark secret lurking in his past? Written in 1938, and memorably filmed in 1944 with Ingrid Bergman and Charles Boyer, Gaslight is everything a thriller should be. It is a genuinely tense study of good and evil, and ultimately unexpectedly moving.
