Front of house (FOH) managers are the welcoming face of the Loft for
audience members. They meet and greet, supervise the entrances to the
auditorium and offer patrons a warm farewell at the end of each night.
They are responsible for the safety of the audience and for the
building in conjunction with the stage manager.
How it works
Each night of every production requires two FOH managers (usually from
7pm) who will take up one of two positions: FOH Manager or FOH
Assistant Manager. Both are there to check tickets at the door, help
to sell programmes, be friendly and approachable in case an audience
member has a problem or question, and assist any audience members with
specific needs (e.g. wheelchair access). During the performance the
FOH Assistant Manager will be in the auditorium with a torch to make
sure they can take latecomers to their seat with minimal distraction
to others or help someone out if they need to leave (e.g. due to
illness). The FOH Manager will remain in the bar area should any
audience member need assistance there.
Commitment and reward
You will not be asked to be there every night of the production. If
you can support the team by taking a position once or twice each
production you will be making a valued contribution. Meeting audience
members is enjoyable and it is the FOH managers who receive the
audience’s thanks at the end of the evening. Working in the Front of
House team helps you to meet new people with similar interests and is
a positive and rewarding experience. You will become known around the
theatre which can help you if you are interested in working in the
other departments too.
