The bar operates on show nights, selling drinks and snacks. It’s
a very rewarding job, enabling you to talk to audience members, cast
and the production crew throughout the evening, not to mention other
members who may be in the theatre for rehearsals, meetings or just to
socialise.
How it works
Opening at 7pm on performance evenings, the bar is run by a
professional bar manager who requires assistant bar staff to support
the high level of service. Experience is not necessary but calm
composure, clear thinking and a good customer-facing attitude are all
key. The main workload occurs during the interval where the whole
audience has only 20 minutes to get a drink. The interval rush can be
helped by the bar taking pre-orders; towards the end of the first act
you will be helping to arrange these drinks ready for the interval.
The bar assistant can usually leave after the interval and so this can
be a really fast-paced and condensed shift during busy performances.
Commitment and reward
Working as a member of the bar team does not require you to be there
every night of the production. If you can support the team by taking a
position once or even twice a production, you will enjoy meeting our
audience members as well as all the people involved in the show.
Working in the bar team also helps you to meet new people with similar
interests and build your confidence, and is a positive and rewarding
experience. You will become known around the theatre which can help
you if you are interested in working in the other departments too.
